No one likes the thought of having a tooth out. Like most dentists, Dr. Derek Clease would recommend a tooth extraction only where another method of saving the tooth is not available.

Wisdom tooth extraction is a normal part of growing up. Most people have their wisdom teeth extracted at some point, usually in their late teens or early twenties.  While the teeth may not initially cause physical discomfort, the angle of impacted wisdom teeth can cause problems with adjacent teeth and can create inflammation and irritation as they continue to emerge. In most cases, wisdom teeth are taken out to prevent overcrowding and maintain optimal tooth and gum health. Having wisdom teeth out when you're younger allows for quicker healing and prevents future problems. In severe but rare cases, wisdom teeth that are impacted can actually develop cysts that have the potential to weaken or damage the bone in the jaw; in these situations, extraction will be necessary.

We know that many young adults have fears associated with having their wisdom teeth extracted, and that’s why at the Vancouver Dental Spa we treat this procedure with care. If required, oral sedation is always an option. Please contact us  for more information on wisdom tooth extraction.
